Laser Hair Removal Q & A
How does laser hair removal work?
For laser hair removal Dr. Divi uses the Icon laser, which employs fractional laser technology, to deliver energy deep into the skin to destroy hair follicles. After a few simple treatments, hair growth is minimized for good. The energy penetrates deep below the skin’s surface, so the outer layer of skin is unaffected.
Why should I choose laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is a permanent solution to unwanted hair. Unlike shaving, which lasts just a day or two, or waxing, which lasts just a few weeks, laser hair removal lasts. It either permanently halts growth in specific areas or slows the growth so much that it’s barely noticeable. It also leaves your skin smoother than other removal methods. It works on a variety of skin types.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of Icon laser treatments you need depends on the area you’re targeting for hair removal. Thicker patches of hair may require more treatments than areas of your face, for example. Dr. Divi creates a customized plan so you get the results you desire.
Multiple treatment sessions also mean you target hair that’s in different cycles of growth. This way, you get all of the hair. For most people, three sessions are sufficient. Appointments are usually scheduled about six weeks apart.
What areas can be treated with laser to remove hair?
Most areas that have unwanted hair can be treated with the Icon laser. Common areas treated by Dr. Divi include the
- Bikini area
What happens during a laser hair removal treatment session?
During a session, you’re put in a private treatment room and lay down on an exam table. Dr. Divi applies the laser wand to the areas to be treated. During the session, you may feel slight snapping or prickling, but most people find the treatment tolerable.
The laser energy enters the hair follicles and destroys the pigment within them. This pigment is then eliminated through your lymphatic system naturally.
After a session, you may have slight redness in the treated areas, but you can go right back to your normal, daily activities.
